W code was 1700 now going 1911.

I started rebuilding my engine today. crank & parts from stateside tuning.

Cam and gear from heritage.

I've assembled the gears on the crank and was about to attach the conrods. I've forgotten how!

If I'm not mistaken they are fixed in numerical order according to the digits stamped on them. However I'm buggered if i can remember which end starts with the lowest number.

Secondly, i bought a scat C25 camshaft and the recommended cam gear ( https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/ ... 000cc.html ). However with these, I cannot figure out a timing mark that the cam and gear match up to.

I don't mean the lining of the dots between cam and crank gears.

As usual help is gratefully received.

Rod #1 goes at the pulley/front right cylinder. Keep rods in numerical order and make sure caps match their rods.
For the Scat C25, align the single dot on the cam gear with the single dot on the crank gear. If there are multiple marks, use the single punch mark that’s the timing index.

Rod number is just a random serial number so you don’t max up the rod&cap pairings, since they are matched.

The rods are marked with a ridge which needs to be upwards when the rod is in its correct orientation for its cylinder.

The cam gear bolts have one offset if I remember correctly so the gear fits in one position only.

If somebody has stamped the rods with numbers indicating their position, then that becomes irrelevant anyway if you're replacing the bearings. As Bruce says, other numbers are simply serial numbers from the factory and have no bearing (excuse the pun) on where they go on the crank.
