FOR SALE
Martin & Walkers Technic 550 Spyder
Sadly, time has come to let my Spyder go, hopefully to someone who’ll get a little more use out of her.

So, what we have is a 1990 registered (as a Technic Spyder) 550 replica that was mechanically rebuilt in 2021 by Paul Foreman (Outlaw 718)
The chassis was full stripped down and shot blasted, rebuilt with an improved front end, then powder coated in pale grey before being waxoiled.

The engine is a 1641cc VW Type 1 built from all new parts with…
EMPI twin port heads (fitted with heavy duty springs)
Balanced counterweighted crank
Scat C35 cam
Twin Dellorto 40/36 DRLA carbs
The cars is also fitted with electronic ignition.

The gearbox is a Porsche/VW 901, dog leg 5 speed with a side shift. This was refurbished by Mike Bainbridge (MB Engineering)

Paul Foreman has fitted his own uprated front and rear suspension, this features twin wishbones with ball joints at the front and ball jointed trailing arms at the rear,
There is a choice of Panhard rods and adjustable dampers are fitted all round.

There are CSP discs fitted at the front (on Wilwood hubs) and CSP ‘Heavy duty’ drums at the rear.

During the rebuild all the electrics where replaced, a new custom wiring loom replace, along with new switches and gauges and some rather cool LED rear lights (with one colour lenes that still pass an MOT).

I think its fare to say the mechanical side of the car is in excellent condition, while the body shell is for the most part bright, shiny (it was repainted about eight years ago, before my ownership)
However, its not perfect and along with the seats it has the patina of an old racing car, look on the bright side you won’t be afraid to use it or could repaint it a colour of your choice.

The car passed its MOT on the 24th Sept 2025 with no advisories (as it has every year since it’s rebuild)
The current milage is 2860miles (since the rebuild).

The car is currently for sale via a broker (Speedsters.com) for £60K but to a DDK’er (or their friends and family) I’d be willing to negotiate in the mid-fifties.

Please feel free to contact me by PM here or email me on ianfishlock@me.com if you like further details.

NB. For anyone genuinely interested there is a thirteen page thread that covers the rebuild in the ‘Replicas’ section tilted M&W 550 Overhaul.

Price £60K but please see details in the text.
