Oil debates never end well …. But many high performance engine builders recommend it and I’ve been using vr1 for many a years and changes and it is imho best oil for aircooled older engines

A never ending debate but anyone that disagrees with me please read Richard's book (a 912 owner in Australia) and have a rethink

I'm sure the VR oil is good and I'm being picky.

Most engine wear is on startup, and first minutes of driving therefore a lower viscosity oil is better. Rather than talk about oil if you turn your car over for 30 seconds before starting it will thank you. Regards of oul. However, on extended trips, like James' recent adventure, the higher viscosity of the 50 is useful but the VR has a lower viscosity index so means the viscosity is less stable so if you exceed 100c. The viscosity will drop sooner but it also has a higher base oil number. This means the oil without modificies is better.

Just saying there are cheaper alternatives that perform very well

Ps actually looking at these numbers in detail the VR does look like a very, very good oil. I take it all back. Apart that for most journeys< 45 mins a lower viscosity is better

The thread was NEVER meant to about which oil is better than what, it was simply to alert anyone who uses this product that it was on discount for a limited period, if anybody wanted to order any.

Thanks for the heads up - been using this for last couple of years. Great for early engines in particular as it has a high zinc content.

Can we just leave it that this is just a heads up about a product being discounted for a limited period. That’s it. Whatever your knowledge base is about this oil or that oil, what you recommend etc. etc. has been discussed over threads through the years.......Thanks

I find it makes my eggs taste a bit funny when I use it in the pan!
