So after an early morning spirited drive in my yellow car yesterday I got into my office thinking how well it was running.......

Popped out for a 30 minute drive at lunchtime and noticed a judder when I pulled away in first - happened once

Then left yesterday evening to drive home and in traffic it juddered in 1st every time, pronounced - to the point I was having to pull away and rev in 2nd (no judder) - all other gears fine.

915 box, 2.4 engine

So, as you do I was reading up last night and have concluded....

1. Check engine to trans nuts and bolts for tightness
2. Adjust clutch cable

the above being the easy option.....

3. Clutch fork damage?
4. Possible seal failure, oil on clutch plate causing the issue, drop box, replace seal and contaminated clutch plate

There's then other possibilities - damaged flywheel etc. but will look at the above in that order first.

No sweat - I've got a manic June and July so won't be looking at it for a while. Will use the 993 for the upcoming DDK meet up.

Sounds like you’ve got the basics covered.

I’d add engine and gearbox mounts themselves to that list. It maybe the higher revs you are using and slipping the clutch to pull away in 2nd avoids setting off the judder by not getting the mounts to resonate.

Judder like that (assuming the mounts are all ok) would normally be warped friction disc. And yes that might happen due to contamination, overheating (starting in 2nd now won’t help!), or just being worn out. Same for cover plate but less likely.

Any difficulties getting into 1st/reverse? Just checking on clutch adjustment.

Now you mention it, a bit of a clunk into reverse yesterday.

I did replace the gear coupling a few months back, worth checking that too?

Coupling wouldn’t make it judder, so not that.

Also check you don’t have a driveshaft about to leave the building if you have a clunk.

Ok, so working from home has it's benefits - spent lunch taking it out for a run locally, all good as I took off, warmed it well, deliberately did plenty of shifting on some country roads

Came home after about 20 minutes so warmed up and slight judder as I pulled into my house - so seemed fine from cold and slight judder returned once warmed up

Strange thing was yesterday evening it seemed to do it straight away and it had been sitting for 5 hours or so before hand

Not sure if that sheds any further light!

Might help to describe the exact circumstances when it judders?

Is it 1st gear as you bring the clutch up when pulling away from rest or something else?

yes, just 1st gear - as bringing pedal up pulling away from rest

Engine/box mounts or clutch plate then.

I read the thread above about the broken fork, entirely possible for sure, just less likely

Mounts. I’d bet my 6 favourite tops on it.

They’re boxy. Boxy is hot right now. You’ll be fine.

Maybe one of the mounts is loose due to a lost bolt (of the 4 needed)?
Easy to sight if so.
Doubt one or more rubber mounts given way, and I would expect juddering in 2nd too. My $ is on the clutch plate. Hope I'm wrong.

First time I've read of the yellow car playing up.

It rarely plays up - coupling issue a few months ago, had some issues with it running here and there but it’s pretty good all round

We will see with this issue for what it’s worth my money is on rear tranny seal has contaminated the plate but that could be because I don’t want to be wearing Sam’s boxy tops
