Koni strut question

I recently bought a NOS Koni front strut 911.341.041.10

I wanted to see what cartridge it came with, so I removed the collar nut using this tool from ebay
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143292531019 ... R5DSu-SlZQ

Very straightforward.

But the cartridge won't come out. It seems there's an O-ring in-between the cartridge and the strut housing. How do I get it out without damaging the O-ring?

That may have been left over from a previous change of inserts?
The rubber seal is normally under the gland nut, is there one there?

The strut is NOS. Never had any previous changes of insert.

The top nut on that strut is a collar nut (no rubber seal). I'll take some pictures.

BTW, this strut was introduced in 1974 (for Carrera MFI), not like the wet types of the earlier Koni's.

I carefully used a jeweller's pick to remove the O-ring but without pricking the rubber:

Oh my goodness me, it's a wet type strut after-all, but of a later design:
