DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Had the pleasure to collect the Class Win trophy last night for the Midland Hill Climb Championship, my 7th win with the Lola-Porsche, and marking 33 years of running in this Championship.

This season has been a bit false due to a real lack of others in the class. Just my old class mate Nigel in his hot NG GT V8, but after a chassis twisting shunt at Shelsley Walsh early in the year he was out and did just 3 events out of the 9 to count.

I has a few super quick class mates far in advance of me driver-wise and car wise, but they were running in a different Championship.

Thus, 2024 was almost a solo run of a year, so the win was rather hollow. It has been like his in other years, just me or sometimes 6 in the class.

Away from that, the car has been utterly superb, the DIY 320 bhp engine has been 100%, never missed a beat and has survived some very abusive runs and 9,000 rpm rev limiter bumps.

Had a small brush with the one muddy bank at Prescott which split the nose of the body, but the chassis survived; you just have to try for the PB's!

So, little to report but have had a huge amount of fun, costs have been around £3500 all in inc the bacon baps too, so about £350 per weekend event, but that also means just 200 seconds on track!

In one of your upcoming hillclimb meetings in March or April, can you lend me your car for a day?

No, not allowed to as the car is too young at 1978 build on the chassis (the cut off date is by chassis build for the event).
I go to that event with a camera, but would love to drive it.
A great meeting to say the least.

Could run the 911! (tempting)

We've been competing at most Classic Nostalgia meetings since the first ones when they were pleading for entries .............
As Graham says the cut-off date is usually early 70's, but it varies. When the cut-off was 1970 two or three years ago, we brought the 914/6, but usually it's 1975, and so we are in our usual 911 hillclimb car.
It is a superb weekend - 19/20 July next year.

The PCGB have a large presence there too, so best talk to Annie Goodyear at the MAC office asap to arrange a 'DDK Spot'?

Just thought, I maybe can't run the 911 in a road going class as it does not have an MSuk Log Book/ Passport; will check.

Surely you don't need an MSUK log book for road class? Doesn't it qualify as a Production car?

Probably so Keith, just been a long time since I paid any attention to road class regs!
So much from the fast classes filter to the earlier classes nowadays it seems.
If I can make it I hope to enter the car, but event is probably over subscribed by now…
