911 T 1970 YM 2.2 litre project near completion for sale

Post by veryporky »

California Car, previously owned by Senior Engineer at Jordan F1 and prior to that his associate.

Just needs a pair of seats and some interior work, wheels refurbishing plus new tyres, brakes reassembling, suspension resetting, new mezac front grills, and door handles. All other exterior trim and rubbers replaced or refurbished ready to fit. I am losing my storage so it needs to go.

I bought this car in the noughties from a Mr O’Neil, senior engineer at Jordan F1 (as letter heads in correspondence show) who was downsizing due to changed marital circumstances. The car was a driver having been road registered and used by him, I drove it round the back roads of Silverstone to check it over. Contrary to my car buddy's advice who thought it fine as was with just a quick respray, I commenced on an in depth restoration. All trim was stripped off the car, panels bonnet, boot, wings doors removed and everything stripped to bare metal before respraying in the correct Glasurit Conda Green two pack. The front fuel tank support was replaced. All sealer on underside was stripped off to bare metal and re coated.

After the car came back from the body shop some years ago I refurbished / bought from Porsche and Porsche independents all the exterior trim and rubbers. Nick at Early 911 refurbished /reanodised the door window frames and rear side window trims. I refitted these with new felts and rubbers, plus new door cappings and rear side cappings. New window rubbers fitted with new inserts front and back. The rest of the trim and rubbers are new in boxes. The only rubbers I did not purchase were the door rubbers as there was some question over the quality of the seals available at the time.

The wheels that came with the car were re anodized 14” comfort wheels on new tyres. I sold these (To Damon Hill’s Manager common thread here) and replaced them with a genuine set of deep sixes. These are very straight and honest but they will need polishing or anodizing plus new tyres. The suspension was set high as part of the US spec comfort specification. I lowered it to European spec which went fine at the front but the rear ended up too low so that needs re setting. The brakes are all there but will need refitting with a fresh master and new lines.

The only other exterior parts that need to be replaced are the mezac horn grills and front indicator lenses plus the door handles. The old items are with the car. Everything else is either refitted to the car or in boxes.

Inside the head liner is original and in nice condition with no rips or tears. The dash pad is in lovely condition, normally these are cracked on California cars. This one is nice and clean which is good as these are costly to replace. A lot of people cover them, but this has not been recovered and does not need to be.

The previous owner replaced the carpets with new Southbound panels. The mats came separate in a box however the side panels that were glued in place remained in the car during its extended time in the bodyshop. A couple of those sections might need to be replaced as they have absorbed a lot of body shop dust.

The car came with a ghastly set of leather tombstone seats that I sold intending to replace, so it does lack seats plus the various door and rear quarter furniture items are scruffy / or missing.

The car was driving happily when I bought it. Pulling smoothly, clutch good, oil pressure good, no smoke or misfiring. Silencer was a bit leaky so I replaced it with a stainless unit. The previous owner had taken the car to Francis Tuthill with a view to doing classic rallying with it and he gave the engine and box his seal of approval – ‘don't touch it it’s fine’. The engine starts and runs smoothly once warmed up with good oil pressure.

It was apparently owned by a Doctor in California for most of its life. The mileage is 64,065 and I take this to be fairly genuine as on the door shut there was a sticker showing oil change due at 63,145 Castrol Pasadena.

I take the car to be matching numbers as the batch numbers for both the engine, gearbox, and chassis all match up as per the Jurgen Barth Porsche Book.

However, now I have lost my storage facility due to building development, and the car is now stored temporarily in a friend’s unit so reluctantly (having put all that time, effort and money into it) I must sell it £47,500. Could deliver by arrangement. PM me if interested.
