DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

We went to the NEC today, swallowed the ticket price and the parking fee, the expensive coffee and costly sandwiches, but felt it was a good show, far better than the last few years.

If the attendance represents the state of the interest in classic Cars and all that goes with it then the future is very bright.

Lots of older people, but far more sub 40's and many I think in their 20's.

Some nice cars but one Mk2 Spitfire done in a small garage at home, 2 blokes, 2 welders and all DIY in hard white and a superb dark blue interior with some neat touches, satin black wires and everything really well done and mirrors under the car to show off all that hard work.

Superb (I had one as my second car in the early 70's).

Auction results were odd I thought. Some really toppy prices on some fords but some bargains for a lot cars offered with no reserve

Datsuns sums all seemed £10k below . Ferraris all low. Most Porsche low apart from 930’s

IMHO the majority of the exhibits were really nice. The paint jobs were out of this world on many, the time lavished on the mundane and the exotic alike truly awesome.

Some people work so very hard or pay a lot for this result. I hope a lot were DIY.

Very nearly asked for a pass-out to go back today solo, but not to be.

Watched some of the auction online yesterday, and I agree with you James on the prices. Quite a few didn't sell. Was surprised at the money got for the Porsche Central Operation resorted '77 911 RS lookalike (£173,250).

I’m all for falling prices, sadly it only seems to apply to the cars I own rather than those I aspire to…
Hopefully they’ll keep falling and I’ll be able to afford a 30-98 or even a WO Bentley!
I’ve noticed a chasm between auction sold prices and the prices being asked by private sellers and especially dealers!!

Noooo don't settle for a 23/60.....30/98s are coming down, the demographic is aging at the same time as the market is collapsing. I was talking to an old friend who is a high end quiet broker, one of his customers has a proper early OE, matching numbers, fully sorted, with its original body, for the price of a built up car a year or two ago. Very much worth aspiring to, hang on in there, call me if when you're ready, even the 30/98 registrar is a DDKer! W

I was there on Friday, a good show I thought, never been before. Thankfully I had exhibitors passes, the parking charge is criminal. Weirdly if it wasn't for the Amiga camper in the background of one of your pics, I'd swear we were at different events....the Amiga caught my eye. Somehow forgot to take any pictures, but my take home car was the RHD Lancia Fulvia Zagato on the Lancia club stand, which was a stand worth visiting....

I'm told to park on a muddy field for the 2024 British GP was £80 per car, so the NCP charge could be called a steal!

Lancia stand was great, the Marcos stands too and a few nice hot rods (real ones).

There was a fab Austin 12, 6 cylinder, one of 3 made and I think the only survivor, custom body in a great colour combo, hidden treats everywhere.

I thought that 575M was cheap, thought it would fetch more than that

Never liked the 550/575 ever since I saw one in my rear view mirror and thought “that Toyota supra looks good”
