912 chassis number on the trans tunnel?

I've been watching an excellent YouTube video series of a 912 shell being extensively rebuilt, lots of the usual and more rust.
The restorer is a pro shop here n the UK.
He found the chassis number stamped in the tunnel recess where the gearbox linkage cover goes.
Is this normal for a 912?
Just curious.
