DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Hi Everyone

I signed up here a while ago, and have sat back, but finally looking to start the restoration of my '66 RHD 911 (UK car)! I am based in Brisbane, Aus. I've been collecting spares over the past 10 or so years, plus trying to investigate the history of my vehicle. I was lucky enough to make contact with the original owner's family who sent me some pictures of the car back in "66. Really awesome to see it when only a few months old! Cheers, Tim

Welcome. That looks like a number plate typical of those on UK early Porsche models 66/67. Great photo. Looks like a time trial on a beach somewhere, Southport? Wales?

Mike, yep it's a mar 66 911 on solexes. I still have the UK plate. The original owners wife said he raced it at Oulton park and the sand but didn't specify where, may reach out to ask....

Lovely car and so nice to have some history to go with it.

Great to see another early RHD come to light. Welcome on board. Love to learn the history and how you it came to you out there in Oz. Still on Solexes? Is it a straightforward rework or does it need a lot doing?

Great car and fantastic to have got hold of some early history, having undertaken a similar journey myself with a '68 car it really brings the car to life.
Looking at the photo it looks to me like 'Southport' written at the bottom......Southport Sands were used for time trials in the late '60's and also in the North West so consistent with Oulton Park.
Hope you will continue to document the cars story and its restoration.

Thanks Ian, I bought it from Porsche GB back in 2010 when I was on a working holiday in the UK (I'm UK born but grew up in Aus). They were apparently going to restore it and use for marketing/historical purposes then found a '65 or '67S (can't remember) which they went with instead. It is still on Solexes, matching numbers, but needs a full restoration. (hope they washed the underside well after that sand racing!) I managed to procure a Celette with all the SWB fixtures for a decent price and had the car placed on top of it to be shipped home in a 40ft container with another vehicle for my dad and all our household items. So basically free shipping for my Celette which worked out well. As parts are much less expensive in the UK than Aus, I also bought a full floor pan, and some other bits and pieces. The interior is in really good cond with no speaker holes cut out of door cards and dash vinyl is good. Plan is to keep it as original as possible and of course use/restore its existing parts as much as I can. Someone had done a 70's update look to it at some point (blacked the chrome and different badging etc)

Great eyes, I didn't know it said southport! That's opened the door for more research of it's history, many thanks! Will definitely document the story and restoration as I progress. Hope you're enjoying your '68!

Thanks for sharing this Nine One One! There's quite a few pictures of it in that photographers collection! really exciting!! I started browsing around to find out about the other early 911 it was racing against, CJM 540D, being a 911S which is why it was in front of mine!
Seems Clive Turnbull was a mechanic for John Akers for the 911S - If anyone has any contact details for Clive it would be great if I could reach out to see if he has any stories when racing against mine from the period?

Do you know of any similar picture galleries from Oulton Park?
