Optima or Odyssey?

Need to change the battery on the 914. Currently has an Optima red top, which is failing to do its duty.
Has anyone any experience of Optimas versus Odyssey batteries?

I've bought & fitted lightweight Odyssey PC680 batteries to several early 911's & my 904 in the past with excellent results.
In each case the cars had minimal electrical items (ie no electric windows, etc) & all were fitted with lightweight high torque starters.
Based on my experiences I'd certainly recommend them ...

I have an Odyssey 925 in Jaffa 911 - relocated to smugglers box - works great!

My first Optima lasted over 10 years, the 2nd fewer than 5. I bought a 3rd this year as I wanted 6v spill-free. I also bought a battery maintainer for the first time to try and prolong its life
I wouldn't pay the premium for Optima if I was 12v

I’ve had an Odyssey 680 for about seven years which has been great until I fitted a Brise starter motor which wanted more than the 680 could give. I now have an Odyssey 925 which is a little heavier but provides all of the power needed. Another thumbs up for Odyssey.

Doesn’t quite answer the question Keith, but I went with these guys after talking to them about my race car battery needs.

They use American components, made in the UK to exceed all current legislation for safety. Really helpful and knowledgable owner.
My battery is super small, weighs only 1kg. You have to look after it, but then I only have the basics in the car as mentioned above and nothing to drain it. Plus I use the kill switch. I am on my 3rd full year with it, which bearing in mind it is the size of my fist is utterly incredible.
The biggest issue was packaging it away from the body given its size, so I made a small ally box lined with polystyrene. It is now all quick released (connectors and leather strap) after seeing a L-ion battery go up in the paddock last year
