DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

So as of now here's how the car is looking.

Next week the roster looks like polish, suspension, brakes and interior.

Partly through one of those things the availablity of a set of standard Bilsteins is off the table.

(Previous shocks were Boge, not leaking, but of unknown provenance or age, and I'm pretty sure the rears came from an early car).

What is available and on order is a set of B6 Sports, which I have very little idea on other than they were available.

Anyone had any experience with them?

(Bushes all round being changed with standard)

Might be wrong here, but I think Gary71 and Hot66 both have the basic suspension by Bilstien.

Basic

Yes Bilstein yellow front and rear. Wouldn’t want any stiffer for the road, but when going gets tough damping is perfect.

Haven't quite figured out the Bilstein colour coding where colours are interchangeable front / rear / stiffness but reckoned that green - described as standard - all round would be just fine. The bit that wasn't fine was the stock situation

Kind of annoying as say versus tyres it was something on the requires no thought list - Here's what I've ended up with based on availability -

Green B6 Sports Front

Not sure though how that equates to Gary71's yellow / yellow stiff all round

I guess teeth stay in and nothing falls off the car good .... bits of me or the car start falling off, not so good

Fwiw mine are probably original 1970 911T and I believe them to be yellow Bilstein all round.

Mine are yellow all round and been like that for 15 years or so. Been good. But I have heard green front yellow rear is the perfect combo so you should be fine

If you can find a set of billies 2nd hand cheap you can send them to be refurbed to any spec you want for around £80/shock.
Bilstein will also assist with recommend settings with you

Unlikely - std fitment to 911T models was Boge which were black.

The possible exception was if the car was optioned with 'S' aluminium front calipers when (red) Koni struts (with the necessary 3.5in mount spacing) were fitted.

As far as I'm aware, all Bilstein struts & rear shockers fitted to Porsche 911 models in the '70's were green.

That's what I thought.

I'd assumed mine had been changed at some point, as it has orange Boge classic on the back.

No leaks, and felt good on the road, but as have fallen into the new and shiny rabbit hole, went for the change

While the yellow Bilsteins at the back are more likely added afterwards?

That sounds likely.

It may be that the Boge struts had replacement Bilstein inserts fitted at the same time the rears were changed.

You need dampers to compliment the torsion bar spring rate, and be honest about the car's use, touring road or track super star etc.

Way back in 1993 Bob Watson had my Bilsteins rebuilt by the factory to his spec which he felt was right for the hills/road (in that order)
My T has stock front bars and 3 litre turbo rear bars.

The result was remarkably good compared to the adjustable red KONI's I had fitted.

Still has the fronts in but the red adj Konis on the back set to mid position. Rear Bil's leaked eventually, changed 4 years ago.

Seems good to me now, but the car is a touring car now, not fussed about road holding etc on the road.
