Refitted the recently refurbished calipers to the S, when we took them off originally, we drained most of the old fluid out. Now they are refitted, we have refilled and bled the system by the old method of “push”, “off”, however the pedal still feels rather spongy.

Am i missing something or have i done something wrong? Do you need to bleed the master cylinder separately?

Buy a Gunson pressure bleeder from Halfords - you'll be amazed how much difference it makes, and how easy it is to use single-handedly. It pushes all the old fluid and air out of the system, via the master cylinder.

I use a pressure bleeder too. Bit late now, but Also when removing the calipers I try and keep the brake pedal held down as that prevents the reservoir and master cylinder from draining as it blocks the inlet. You can also make up an end cap for the flex is using an old copper brake pipe . All to stop it draining dry

I have one of them gunson pressure bleeders, but never really got on with it. Looks like i should give it another go

Don't forget to block off the master cylinder overflow pipe and check that it is not brittle so that it breaks when you clamp it

Good point - I flooded the area under the petrol tank on my 914/6 with brake fluid because I hadn't realised there was an open breather pipe! My current 914 relies on a vented cap, so it's no longer a problem. A short piece of rubber hose (windscreen washer hose?) can be used and easily clamped.

So tried the Gunison easibleeder on the brakes today to re-bleed them. All it did was fill the brake fluid reservoir and then miffed out into the overflow pipe, which had a brake pipe clamp on it. So that didn’t work

Too much pressure?

You have remembered to bleed both nipples on each "S" caliper, haven't you?

Might of done this on the front drums brakes on my 356. Until I realised there was a nipple for each caliper

To block off the reservoir overflow, I got a piece screen washer pipe and crimped the end of it with some heat. I push that over the outlet nozzle and make sure my air pressure to the EasiBleed is less than 12 psi. Works a great.
