S/T lightweight black felt carpet

Ok, so this is a tough one as I’ve already spoken to stretch about his supply of the correct black felt material which he no longer has any of. Turns out the 50m rolls which he sold to Tech9 and Historika have either been sold or are reserved for customers, so I need to find some from a different source.

Cartex-Sitzklinik claim they have the correct OEM material for an S/T (https://www.cartex.de/shop/de/porsche/s ... eppich-901) and they sent me a sample but it doesn’t seem as thin (almost see-through) as what stretch told me it’s supposed to be. (They also have the ribbed rubber floor mats which they claim are correct, but there is no photo available: https://www.cartex.de/shop/de/porsche/t ... -serie-rsl)

Can anyone help with this particular item? Is there an unused roll or set of the correct material lurking out there somewhere, or can anyone point me in a different direction / supplier (other than Friesinger who wants €1,200 for an original set of ‘72 cut pieces )

Reading ‘Another Hot Rod’ on ESR, I note that Flunder sourced his carpet from gilbert911? A possible source?

All suggestions welcome!

I don't think that Chris ('gilbert911') is still involved in early Porsches - I haven't seen/heard from him for years.

He was/is a friend of Tim Barker's (TimB on DDK) so he might chime in ...

As Andy said Chris ('gilbert911') is a good friend and is still involved in the Porsche world to some degree although I know he doesn't have any remaining 911 parts. I was fortunate to purchase a complete original T/R lightweight carpet interior from him a few years ago plus I have experience of the same factory supplied carpet from the remaining interior found in the T/R I restored, there are a few close up photos somewhere in this thread (apologies I can't remember what page but probably about half way through):

This is assuming that the lightweight carpet the factory used in '68 for the T/R's is the same as used in later ST's; hopefully someone more knowledgable on ST's can help you with that.

I was just talking to Dave Nunn at Southbound about something else and mentioned it to him for you. He has plenty of lightweight black for RS/RSR but not sure if that's what you need, best speak to him. What he did say though was that the original black lightweight material actually had a very feint blue tint in it, which you can't get now.

Hi Mike

Thanks very much, that’s really helpful. I spoke to Dave this afternoon who was equally helpful and had a really good chat with him. He prefers the 5mm thick Perlon over the 3mm as it is more durable (apparently the 3mm tends to fluff and fray even when running a hoover over it) but he has both in stock and also the cotton webbing for the edging. He reckons about 8 square metres would do the interior and also advised that Carpoint have the correct ribbed rubber mats for the floor. All in all a really useful contact (I was somehow aware of their excellent reputation in Porsche trimming and so it has proven to be the case) and I will probably order what I need from him.

With another bit of Christmas good fortune, I have found a car's worth of stretch's carpet, courtesy of inaglasshouse, together with a used lightweight rear view mirror so I am chuffed to bits to have secured two more correct items for my S/T. Thanks Richard!
