Its time for me to buy a new spark plug wrench
Are there any make you would recommend that suits the 911 ( ie one which grips the plug so I don't loose it to the inner regions of the 911

)

I have one of those, acquired out of the Porsche Tool Kit when I punted my mates 924.
Bl*ody brilliant for getting those pesky plugs out, but then I've only got 4 of them to pull at the moment.

I have one of the spanners that James has just ordered.
I cannot praise it enough. So foolproof that even I can use it.

What a superb bit of kit. Very impressed, and to think I've been struggling on with a standard plug wrench all these years.

This is the cats balls for getting spark plugs in and out of a 911 - the Hazet factory tool. A slliding lock pin lets you just push and release to vary the length of the tool as you work from plug to plug. The plug end is sized and shaped to work around the hidden obstructions under the valve covers and the other end has a combined knurled knob and 3/8 drive opening.
