DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Hi everyone. I'm Wayne. I'm up in the artic North East In Sunderland. I've been lurking in the background for a wee while on here so thought it time to introduce myself and my car. I purchased the 69t in the summer from a guy in Sheffield. It's obviously a project and needs a significant amount of welding, floors, passenger side sill, a pillar work and rear seat bases. It's my first porsche but not my first resto. I've had several beetles and buses over the years.

I've started to strip the car the the shell logging everything as I go. Just a few pics of work so far. So bits aren't as bad as I feared and other are so in the main doable. She is going in for welding in the new year with a friend of mine up here then paint in early summer.

I'll apologise in advance for stupid questions which will increase significantly when I take the engine and box out no doubt . I'll post more progress pics later.

Thanks Gary . I was on VZi the VW forum for many years so kind of thought this forum would be a nice place to find info and like minded porsche folk and be built in a similar way for picture loading.

Lots of us here migrated from the VW scene so you are in familiar territory

Yup. At least you can buy pretty much anything, which is some (slight) compensation.

Yes thankfully. Lots of bits missing that I'll have to collect. Plenty of time though.

A few more pictures of what I've done so far. As I said in the opening post I'm stripping the car to the shell ready for welding in the New Year. I also started to do a few little resto bits just to break up the stripping part. The bezels of all 5 gauges were rusty and tired. So I've started to take them apart, clean them up and repaint them. I've also started to flatten and polish the window frame surrounds. Very premature but I fancied having a go now to decide whether I'd do them all and the pop outs. Hard work getting past the anodised surface. Used a light flappy wheel on a dremmel. Then started with 1200 wet and dry up to 2000. Then autosol then finished with mother mag polish. It's going to need a few more goes but you get the idea after about an hours work.

Its not exactly a sequential resto process but I've always found the stripping the car part hard work to keep at it so it breaks it up with these little resto activities keeps me motivated. Horses for courses I suppose.

I'm off with the kids next week for half term so I'll crack on stripping the passenger door then get the headliner and interior out

I’m doing my window frames as well right now, good to see the mother’s polish! I used Mr Muscle to soften the anodising, as you say it’s hard work just to sand it off.
