Starter motor

My 66 SWB with hotted up 2.2S spec ali case engine, high compression pistons etc is suddenly strugging to start. No high pitch gear on gear noise, just struggling to crank - it will eventually catch and then engine runs fine.

I am changing the 7 year old battery out but i think the starter is probably giving up as I dont think it was refurbished during the rebuild.

Any recommendations?

Rebuild? Any recommendations if so?

New high torque starter? WOSP LMS027?

If he is still working Rob at Broadway Electronics will rebuild it or you can build a kit from 911 Design

I understand that they can have the starters coils configured for lower voltages

Before you do anything with the starter motor itself, check and clean the gearbox to body earth strap, and the heavy main lead to the starter. Obviously disconnect the battery first!
