Under the 911t, the clutch cable appears to have a support directly below the driveshaft which looks like it might be broken off. Is this supposed to be a full hoop or flange? Or does it appear correct?

That's broken, also, it's not meant to be covered in gunk.

I assumed it's part of the cover itself that's broken off - but until I clean it I won't know whether it's a removable fitting bolted on. Looking at the photo, it looks like it could be replaceable.

This is a '70 car, right?
It would probably be worth investing some time in swotting up on clutch actuation.... The 70 cars used a really weird system to operate a "push" lever. Essentially the cable end stays still and the cable sleeve does the pushing.

I'm glad you said that because that's what it looked like and I thought to myself "I'm not sure I'm seeing that right". I was planning on getting the missis to press the clutch while I lie under the car and see what happens. First step of swotting up needs to be find out what that broken support arm is meant to look like.

Ok so I can see now this is an integral part of the side cover plate. Any suggestions how to fix it? Can these be welded? Or grind flat, drill and bolt one on?

Do you know if the sleeve is supposed to just slide freely within it, or do the bolts clamp the sleeve on to it? On a prima facie basis you would expect the sleeve to be fixed to it, in which case the clutch wouldn't work without it. But given my clutch works fine (at the moment) I have to assume it's just a guide within which the sleeve slides freely.

Just a guide. There’s another bolt on guide toward the front of the car. See my thread and the linked Pelican article.
