Hi, I've bought a USA 1970T which I don't actually have my hands on yet and I'm keen to clear up what the original engine/gearbox are.

I understand it to be a 2.2T and it definitely has a clutch!!

Porsche COA shows engine number 6108739, which, if I'm interpreting the widely available table correctly, suggests this is a USA spec SPM or Sportomatic engine:

911 T (USA)(CDN) 911.07 70 610 5001>> 6ZYL/2,2L /92KW
911 T SPM (USA)(CDN) 911.08 70 610 8001>> 6ZYL/2,2L /92KW
911 T 911.03 71 611 0001>> 6ZYL/2,2L /92KW

However the Porsche COA says transmission number 7108912 which according to here https://blueskymotorsports.com/index.ph ... 7&Itemid=6 sits in the range 7100001 - 7109999 (MY 1970), and that reads off as a five speed:

911/01 5 7:31 S A GA O V ZA

and the note says:

1970-71 911E, 911S

which implies this is the gearbox from an E or S rather than a T.

Porsche COA Optional equipment just says USA, Bumper Horns, Blaupunkt radio (US band), tinted glass, Dunlop Tires (sic).

Given the clutch in the floor and the 911/01 gearbox number it seems likely we can trust the COA and this has a 911/01 box - but why the "SPM" designation against the engine number, and why the E/S designation in the gearbox notes?

The COA are notorious for being inaccurate so can not be relied upon for 100% accuracy. The factory records which were used as the basis of the COA are often hand written and or altered by hand and not really particularly legible. This leads to errors in transcribing them.
I am not knowledgeable about US specification 911s but a T spec may have been a four speed gearbox as standard whereas an E or S would have had as standard a five speed. A five speed would have been available as an extra cost option on a T.
There are more knowledgeable people on here but it might also be worth posing questions on the early911sregistry.com which is a USA based site.

Engine no. 610 8739 is a US-spec (911/07) 2.2T engine

The US 911T Sporto models from that year had engine nos in the range - 610 8001 - 610 8374

Transmission no 7108912 is a 1970 5-speed (probably type 911/00)

Given the age of the car, it's most likely a Sporto that's been converted to manual earlier in its life, like many of them were when they were relatively cheap cars and spares were plentiful and cheap by today's standards.

Is it on 14" Fuchs?

It's on Fuchs - not sure of the size.

Turns out the Sporto numbers only go up to 610 8374 so stop before getting to mine. Also, it looks like the US T's had 5 speed as standard.
