Very large packages from USA to UK?

Hello,

What is the best and cheapest way for shipping very large packages from LA to UK, box size 1.8m x 1.0m x 0.4m?

I looked on USPS website and they say it's too large.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ian,
you don't say the weight, but I had a similar sized box containing an e-foil board weighing 20 kgs shipped from the States by Fedex no problem

Thanks for the reply. Mine is also about 20kg per box (I need to ship 2 boxes) but the prices I got from Fedex, UPS & DHL websites (online calculator) were between $3000 and $4000 per box

Did I do something wrong?

Try Kingstown Shipping, I think that they do shared containers.

Doesn’t sound right. I had two seats shipped from USA to here for about £500 with DHL. It was few years ago though. I’ll dig out the shipping company I used and I’ll send you a pm.

You need to look at pallet shipping, oversized at that.

Thanks for the heads up. I looked on UPS Freight and found the following:

UPS Air Freight Direct
$644 Pick up and delivery to door included but without Customs brokerage
or $703 with Brokerage

UPS Air Freight Consolidated
$584 without brokerage
$644 with Brokerage

So, what does Consolidated mean?

Is it better to have customs brokerage included or without? Do I need to tick DDP option (delivery duties paid), DDU (unpaid) or none at all?

I was just going through the process but it says I must open a payment account. WTF?

Yes, this is why it is easier to use a courier company since they already have an account.

Another thought, I used Aladdin Freight based in Oakland some years ago to ship my '12 over. I believe they do smaller items too. They's since merged with West Coast Shipping but were very helpful at the time.

veronica@wcshipping.com

Hope this helps.

Is there an option for sea freight as flying it over is always more expensive.

I see what you mean.

Thanks Ollie & Nige.

I spoke to Kingstown earlier but they don't collect from San Diego unfortunately.

I'll contact Veronica.
