Hockey puck steering wheel centre

On my '75 914 I have a 380mm steering wheel with the 'butterfly' type horn push. Am I right in thinking that I can convert this to the 'hockey puck' type?

If so, anyone have any ideas how this can be done without spending £320 on a repro part that is going to be re-trimmed anyway?

Hi Jonny

Yes, direct replacement. Twist off, twist on, away you go.
I've never seen a decent repro, but it's been a year or 3 since I prodded the various offerings.

I got 2 of mine (originals) via the EarlyS classifieds, I seem to remember. Not super cheap, but not especially rare.

Cheers, Richard.

Jonny

I got my repro one from Ramon Gellida over on the early s registry, paid USD 230 inc. shipping to Swissy so a bit less than the stuff you've found.

Quality seems ok but the appearance is more matt than an original puck (machined alu which has been painted).

Cheers, Magnus
