DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Hi, final post for tomorrows run, as outlined in previous blast thread.

Meeting from 10.30am to leave at 11am, Wisly South Service Station on the A3, a couple of miles down the A3 past M25 Junc 10. Pull in for fuel air etc; then we will meet up on the long exit road.

Will be giving out route guide, directions and tips and so on tomorrow, but the run in total is under 2 hours driving and under 100 miles in distance, just great mix of roads, beautiful countryside, great lunch stop and great cars!

Feel free to join at any point, perhaps as we join the A272 from the A3 theres a small layby, should be passing about 11.30, or as we come down Midhurst High Street. Or the lunch stop is the Half Way Bridge Inn just before Petworth on the A272. Should be there by noon.

That was simply awesome! Mike had the route really planned out and I must say it was a REAL blast! The weather was scorching hot and the cars were hotter. We stopped of for a meal at a wonderful place, which tp all intents and purposes could have been anywhere on the continant. It was so nice that I think I'm going back.

We blasted our cars all through the A roads and B roads.. who needs the Nurbergring when you have Her Majesty's Highway?

We finished up at the Fairmile, and met up with another fellow DDK'r.

Great day and drive....some serious fun!! Great route Mike and fab location for lunch!!

So the lineup forms for the drive out.........the Scania driver was soooo disappointed that he coudn't join us, but we said Mustang's were one thing, but Scania's a different kettle of fish!!

A well earned lunchtime rest, and a chance for the rest of us to restore our blood pressure after Mike's 'blind corner incident'!!



A blast round the countryside followed, ending in a stopover at our susal haunt, The Fairmile



and then coincidentally, John arrived with his SWB S

Isn't one of those pictures one of my shots using your very excellent SLR camera? Not a bad job even if I do say so myself.

Err.. nice shot of me pleading with Peter NOT to MOON the camera there Viv. You wouldn't believe the behaviour we had to put up with, we were lucky Stevieboy wasn't there.

Too many highlights to metion but it was really good. DDK'rs you missed out but make sure your at the next Southern Blast!

Really good to meet all you guys, by accident. What a beautiful set of cars. Next time I'll hopefully be there for the fun driving bit, although possibly not with my girlfriend .

Alam - you weren't lying about the blue smoke or the noise. Good luck with the MOT, hope the exhaust makes it through the without any trouble.

I'm really peeved at not being able to make this, especially as it went thru my back yard (well, close enough).

My engine has some worn valve guides, not very worn but enough that when the car has been on a good run and the oil is hot and then a little oil seeps past the guide into the exhaust. If I had a Cat on the engine then you would see that much just a little puff like Peter had on his car.. I don't run a cat though and so it collects and then is suddenly burnt off. its a common thing with the 3.2's I am told. As soon as the car get to 2,000rpm it clears and will then not be present at anytime unless I stop the car and switch the engine off for a time.

Its not really hurting the car and is more of an embaressment then anything else. I don't think I am ready for a £2,000 top end rebuild at the moment which is not really in need of. However next year a total engine overhaul will be on the cards, so I can really drive it hard in sound knowledge it can take it.

I can live with it..

I love the sound of my engine it sounds like a racer and it it pretty much matches with the performance. In my humble opinion anyway.

I would've been there, but after the run back from Brands last week , I took one final look out
the rearview and decided the car's not doing anything serious until I finally bite the bullet and
get the valve guides done. And the whole top end while i'm there.

Thing is, Chris Turner can't fit it in for at least 3 weeks... and by then... the season's pretty much over.

Fingers crossed for an Indian Summer, right!?
