DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

I've recently acquired some black anodised door frames, handles and rear trim which have a lovely patina although maybe a touch too light on one frame in particular.

I'm keen to retain a faded look and don't want to go down the route of fresh anodising.......has anyone tried Gun Blue on anodised frames?

It would appear you might be able to build up the colour without making it too dark?

Do you mean ‘machine blueing’ - I got a kit from frost tools

I don’t think it will work on aluminium though - thought it just worked on steel. Could be completely wrong on that

you can blacken steel, with heat then dipped in oil.Or if your Organic, and want a more subtle look, Linseed oil is the way.My mate uses it on his bike builds in preference to anodising.I recently purchased a "gun blueing pen" to use on some of my stuff for my other job, to disguise wear and damage.

I dont know for certain but I have been looking at anodising kits and anodising in general recently and the info that comes with anodising dyes suggests that the desired shade of any colour is set by the dilution of die in water e.g. select a colour and look at the bottle label on this Ebay ad. I suppose that getting the right shade comes from experiment and-or experience. I'm sure a good anodising firm could match the shade pretty good for you. After the dieing step, there is a sealing step, which suggests that you could add more die and darken it before sealing...

Intertesting. Would this work on Anodising a silver Steering wheel to bkack / gun-metal (duck for cover)...

I'm not sure if it will Julian as from what I understand this is a chemical reaction rather than a colouring process.

That said I do plan to try it out of curiousity at some point and will report back.

Please let me know if you get there before me.

Anodizing will not work on these
They contained to much Silicium ,i tried and it failed
Its a other proces which i was not able to have copied

I would keep the original patinated look. They can look a bit "False" when newly anodised, even if you choose a dark purple colour.
