Hi All,

Just installing my fuel sender and the sender unit has a 'randomly' organised set of 4 pins. This style of sender looks like the only sender unit that is sold out there on design911 etc. My loom has a plug on it with 4 evenly spaced sockets in a neat square with another pin to ensure it is in the right orientation.

I am hoping someone will shed some light on the plug I have but I am guessing I need a randomly organised pin plug like is on later cars for the sender. Does anyone know where I can get one or have one kicking around?

The plug and sender often look like they don't mate, but actually do.
I suspect that your plug is the correct one for the sender.
From memory one of the pins normally sits in the outer notch of the connector.

Have another look and try rotating it until the plug fits on three of the pins that form an L shape.

I have been known to be wrong ( quite a lot actually ), but if it doesn't seem to go after another try, post a photo of the two parts you have.
I remember having the same problem when I rebuilt my 912 and finally had a Eureka moment.

The thinner brass coloured pin sits in the groove on the outside if the connection.

I must admit, I stared at mine a couple of weeks ago, puzzling over why it didn't seem to fit, even though I knew for sure that it was once connected there. Luckily, the caffeine kicked in and I worked it out in the end!

Yes it wasnt that hard in the end, the trick is realising that there is one pin that is different and is not part of the connector - that goes on the outside of the plug as desert rat pointed out.

Have now done a few repairs to the sender, (it has lost continuity across the pines at the bottom for the fuel light) and am all working nicely now
