Floor sound deadening - where does it go?

Am planning to install bitumen type sound deadening material back inside my 73 floor area.

Unfortunately, I removed the original stuff about 20 years ago and I cannot remember if it just covered inside the floor pans themselves, or extended up to the tops of the sills and covered the centre tunnel (I am thinking no...)?? I think it may have covered the area behind the map pockets too?

I've looked high and low on the Tinternet and in the resto threads on here, but no luck....

I am only asking about the area in front of the back seats (I still have the original rear seat pieces)

Hope someone can advise! Best wishes! :bounce:

Appreciate not the same year but there is no bituminous paint above the flat floor pan on mine. All my carpet sticks to painted metal, ie on the sills and tunnel (although my carpet isn't stuck to the tunnel).

Thanks Phil ! I saw a Youtube video of a chap stripping his floor which showed a few seconds of him removing this mat material from sides of the footwell area - does yours have the same please and how far does it extend?
