Is that you car? It looks strangely familiar but I can't quite remember where I have seen it. Looks nice, will be interesting to see where it ends up.

Looks nice. Few bits wrong but I’m in no position to criticise anyone else on originality!
- A Pillars missing vinyl
- Engine handle broken
- ‘one road hawk tyre’ WTF
- Black light surrounds
- Those seats...
It’s a shame not to spend a little more on a set of replica S seats and some decent tyres before sale.

Black rear light surrounds from a 73 and both rear body seals missing. Rear slam panel stickers missing. Modern seats. Rear lid hinges in black. Overrider grommets missing. Door bolt grommets missing. Door edges not painted black. Replacement steering wheel and gear knob. Modern bonnet badge. Painted door hinge pins. Hinge bolts painted on the drivers side but not on the passenger side. Windscreen washer bottle cap missing. Either the boot should be black (if Karmann built) or all faded body colour including smugglers lid if not. Boot vin number should be black in any case. Window decal missing. Broken engine lid pull. Black modern windscreen washer nozzles . Pedal rubbers missing.
Nice paint job.

Ok, I am going to make no effort to be polite... Here's how it looks to me.
As can be seen from the old thread, this has arrived from the US in the late 1970s in a probably more or less rust free state (good).
But since then: has it had more than a re-paint? What metalwork was done, by whom, and to what standard? The risk here is that it's shiny but rotten. The absolute worst type of car to buy. Careful inspection, including borescope, absolutely mandatory I would say. Not one to buy at auction...
As others have said, quite a lot of details are wrong but they don't matter so much (cost wise, although they do perhaps indicate less-than-OCD ownership).

But it could be very nice, a lot of fun for someone, drive beautifully, and be a bargain. I don't know the car and I'm not out to offend.
I do know that I'd be giving it a good poke with a screwdriver in various places, if I were in the market.
Meaning online auction is not a purchase channel I would fancy for this car. Or any car other than a clear basket case, in fact. I just don't get these auction sites with 100 arty pics and no real information. Perhaps I'm missing something? Don't you need to poke a car, smell a car, open and close the doors, lie underneath it in a pool of oil, maybe even drive it before spending 50K+ on it?

I’ve bought a few £5k cars unseen, I reasoned the worst that could happen was I’d lose half that and I could just about live with that.
People who spend £50k unseen are probably just 10 times richer than me so see the same level of relative risk.
