Currently restoring my '79 SC targa and just looking at the fitting of seals.

I've have already realised that the metal tube that the targa top pins slide into is not a permanent fixture if you get your tub heat stripped :( . So, 2 new silent blocs, plus assorted seals later ..... £270 kerching .....

Can someone take a photo of the corner on the targa hoop where the pins fit please (as a driving car, when all seals, etc are installed)

From the parts diagrams I understand that there is the silentbloc (fitted from the rear) and a gasket / seal that goes on the forward face, I am assuming under the seal that goes around the frame. The frame seal (from the top of the door, up and across the top and down the other side to the top of the other door) has a hole for the pin to pass through in the top corner and 2 small holes either side. Is there anything on the outside of the frame seal, or is it just 2 self tapping screws to ensure that the frame seal doesn't come away when the targa top is removed ?

For the avoidance of doubt & confusion, what I'm trying to discover is what interior trim finishings (if any) are used on the weatherproof seal where it covers the top left corner of the targa hoop.

I believe that the hole in the centre of the hoop has a small cover plate, item 54 in the parts diagram attached, with part 53 being welding in place and block 49 screwed in behind.

Thanks

Here you go.. I think this is what one of the things you asked about, but I'm not entirely sure.

The seal is glued in place and held down at both sides of the pins with plastic plugs (look a bit like door card plugs), not self tappers. You have to lever the pins up, by inserting a screwdriver or similar, just enough to slide the seal under the pin (once the pins are back in place). My plugs are missing from the pic, but you can clearly see the holes for the plastic plugs (part numbers below). My car is a 73, so I dont have the central pin. Happy to help with any of this - I'm getting the bits together to re-trim mine so its partially disassembled...

99959152040 plug (4 per car)
99959138440 cap for plug (4 per car)

Thanks
Mainly in now, although I have what looks like 4 jumbo plastic self-tappers that I thought went either side of the silent bloc / pins. I’ll do more looking

Ahhh, you're right, that's jogged my memory - I think they changed over to a flat screw-in version. Think its this one:

I realised the other day that I made a mistake in this last thread.

It turns out that the plastic plug shown in the Roger Bray link is for the Ski rack !! They go into the holes on the vertical sides of the Targa bar.

Perhaps you already knew about this, but it was news to me. I have been quizzing over what goes into those 4 holes for weeks and where the fluff I put mine when I removed them!!

I think the part numbers that I provided for the plastic plugs and caps that go through the rear seal on both sides of the Targa roof locating pins are correct though

Hope that makes sense!
