Handling windscreen and Targa rear glass

Hi chaps,

I have the seals cut, ready to pop out the front and rear screens on my Targa.

I've never done this before, and it goes without saying that I plan to be extremely careful and maybe even semi-patient with my wife when I recruit her to help me with this task...

- are they fairly robust and will be happy to be lifted out and carried about without cracking or breaking, or, are they extremely fragile and will break if you look at them in the wrong way?? Any handling tips from those in the knooo?

No idea where the heck we're going to put them - garage is full, shed is full, house is full, loft is full...

Thanks! :cyclopsani:

They are tough enough if you aren’t careless with them. Front is laminated and can crack if there is existing damage or large stone chip. Rear is toughened and will take a lot of abuse but can shatter if you catch an edge on something hard. I’ve broken a few fronts, never a rear though.

Take care you do not dislodge the heated rear screen spade contacts

Good point, although if you do they solder back on relatively easily.

Thanks guys! We mustn't forget, that I can always blame the missus if something breaks

Good point about the wiring - I shall take a look and make sure that its taken care of...

In our experience an original front screen is more likely to break on the way back in than on the way out.

Rear Targa glass has always been really tough - especially when the cars were being broken up to rescue coupes. You could chuck them around and you couldn't give them away because nobody wanted them. Sods law dictates that now more Targa's are being restored the glass will take on a new fragility!
