Milestone crossed today (with 928 rally car project)

Post by Cortina »

Since I have been making shell progress - decided that before I went into engine rebuild mode , it was better to make sure I had a "sound" basis to start from.

Engine had not moved in just over 7.5 years (since accident in March 2013 !!) So, a few quick checks : Oil , water , does it turn easily by hand ?
All good - fuel still in tank - yes 1/4 full.
Battery charged - power on briefly : Check for two pumps running and no smoke / sparks where there should be no sparks :
5 secs later - vroom (so much for old wives tale about petrol going off after x months ??): Sound was "rougher" than I remembered - 5 secs later a 7th cylinder , then an 8th ................ aggghhhh ... that's more like it.

All sounded sweet - brought up to about 60C , all good ................ happy days :)

Engine plan thoughts are the usual simple tweeks to provide a few more useable hp : Inlet valve size , camshaft , compression ratio , and exhaust system. I suspect head design is pretty good to start with , will wait till I see what's what before I think about any mods there. My last two rally heads were breathed on by Bill Blydenstein himself - pity that option is no longer open to me.
Royal Enfield .. still in India
GL 1800 Tour DCT, for pleasure / Fantic 240 Professional - play
Rally 911 (1966) build parked for a while
Rally 928 (work started again - inc serious weight loss programe !)
.... and now another VW Up GTI owner.

Wow Alan, 7 years! Doesn't time fly when you're enjoying yourself?
Great that it is running again, get it ready for Killarney Historic 2021

Should have been up Molls this weekend and the video reminded me of what I am missing
Here's to next year

Clive , the name will come to me - I met him semi recently at one of the Deja Vu events and was winding him up about it ... then he reminded me that he caught me later the same day.... on the night stage !! Is there a Falvey apart from Todd who has rallied a 911 ?? , I think he does more demo stuff these days . Throw some names at me and I'll say if you hit the right one !

Got there : Conor Falvey - 75 TN 540 (BP Sponsored ?? replica car)

Yes - but which one (down to choice of two now - Gulf colours or bare shell) - both featured on here already , can't see why anyone would want to see either again .... hence my original question !
