Exterior door release

Hello,

My car is overdue its MOT, and apparently a working door release is a key requirement to getting the ticket. Problem seems to be that when I pull the trigger on the handle, I can see things moving around inside the door, but it's not engaging with the release mechanism. I can't see any obvious adjustments that can be made...though it's quite hard to see in there. Is this a common problem ? Is there a routine way to fix it ?

Ta

Ian

Not meant to be a silly question but have you checked to ensure the three screws holding the mechanism in place are tight? Mine came loose once and caused a couple of issues, one of which you describe.

Hi - that sounds like a very likely cause. I had a feel around inside the door and nothing seemed loose, but I suppose it could have drifted over time and still not be obviously loose. I'll check the screws.

Thanks

Ian

Turned out to be a broken trigger. That's happened to me before, but last time the whole thing broke. This time, it had only partly failed meaning it couldn't push the release pin far enough out.
