Post by adrianscott »

Apologies if topic posted before.
Overhauled front and rear light housings. What an arse ache!

Any experience please.

No relay as far as I am aware 69 is duel circuit so the brake light switch is on the peddle box. Check the switch Is making contact and that there is voltage there And trace it through. Do the tail lights work? If not suspect that the earths need cleaning

If original pedal arrangement and master cylinder:
No relay
The switch is not the usual pressure device (which, unless faulty, will give you brake lights if there is brake system pressure). Instead it's a small mechanical switch mounted behind the brake pedal, which is actuated by the pedal itself. They can be a bit fiddly to position correctly, so that the lever on the switch is in the right place. There is an adjustment screw on the switch, which changes the position of the switch actuation lever (to help it meet the pedal in the right place).
Bit fiddly, but fine once set up.

Fiddled about and the brake lights are now working! THANKS
... but the brake lights stop working as they become sidelights!
Is there such a car bulb which can go bright and brighter?
Reverse lights - nothing - a way to go.

Adrian, do you have dual filament bulbs in place?

You would be able to see two filaments in the bulb if you did.

Sidelights use one filament and the brake the other?

Apologies if I have the wrong end of the stick.

No Matt. You’re bang on. That might be the answer.
I didn’t know that. Get them on eBay?

Your local auto factor. Do you have a Porsche 912 Owners manual? The bulbs are all listed in there. It may be a 5w/21w off the top of my head.
As for your reverse lights, check your bulbs, ground, and then pull the connectors out of the switch on the transmission. With your ignition on, if you touch the bullet connectors together your reverse lights should work.

If not check your wiring, if so suspect your switch or that the pin isn't doing it's job in the transmission
