Tyre recommendations for a 356A
Tyre recommendations for a 356A
A big hello to everyone.
Incredibly excited as I have just purchased a beautiful 1958 356A coupe.
The tyres although as new are 20 years old and of course need replacing.
What would you recommend I go with.
The Pirelli Cinturato CA67 or CN36 ?
Or any of the Michelin range.
Many thanks for your help

Hi,
I guess tyres are a personal choice but I favour the Mitchelin XZX tyres. Longstone tyres have a great website ( and can sell you the tyres)
https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classi ... e/356.html
They drive nicely but also look period.
Cheers
Pete

Hi , welcome to 356ing !
as 356Monkey says , Michelin XZX are appropiate tyres to fit and have the right period look . They were fitted to my outlaw pre A which ran 15inch wheels from a 356C , and I replaced them with the Pirelli Cinturato CA67 . The CA67 have a similar look and the right profile and are excellent in wet and dry for spirited driving . They are a lot cheaper than the Michelin and again are available from Longstone .
I notice you are in London , I can recommend Jaz Porsche out at St Albans for maintaining your 356 , Steve Winter is very knowledgable about 356s and 911s and can supply and fit the tyres too !!

Very much appreciated.
I went with the CA67's which was Longstones tyre recommendation.
Yes I am not too far from Jaz. I have known Steve Winter for over 25 years.
I popped up to see Fred Hampton yesterday as it has been many years since he has seen this particular car which he knows very well.

They look great.
Any chance of one with some steering lock on so we can see the tread pattern.
Cheaky i know, but that car looks great.

That used to belong to David Eddlestein its reg number I have never forgotten. Seen it years ago a number of times. Nice pic of it on page 57 of Denis Jenkinsons book 'Porsche 356'
Its been in quite a few magazines over the years.
Enjoy it!

Hi
Aplogies for the blatant commercial post, but i thought you might want to know.
Both the 165HR15 Cinturato CA67 for early cars (1952 tyre) and the 165VR15 Cinturato CN36 (1968 Porsche 912 and 911 tyre) are back on the shelf.

Hi
I have heard people ask about winter tyres for a 356 before and thought this might be of interest
That is what it says in their newest classic tyre brochure.

There does not appear to be any WINTER markings on that tyre on your web link.........i.e. the snow flake?
