Hi, hoping someone can tell me how the double ended threaded adapter in the oil filter console should be fitted? Should there be a washer beneath the hex where it meets the console casting? or does it just screw in. Should it be loctited into the alloy casting or just tightened. Maybe I am looking for something more complicated than it is, but it just doesn't seem right as it is and I am reluctant to fit it without knowing it is correct as I don't want the oil system to fail. I have looked at the parts diagram and the console is just shown as 1 part, alloy casting and steel adapter as one item.

Any help or advice appreciated.

It's the threaded part in the middle of the console.

Generally, these just tighten without the need for any locative or washers. That looks to be a BSP type fitting, in that it has a flat flange to flat flange mating surface. Often, the line will have, but may not definitely, have a rubber O ring already fitted, to it.

The other common type of fitting is -12 (other sizes available). They have a dome on the receiver, and the opposite fitting has a dimple so they mate together. These again need nothing else than torquing up.

The only thing to be minded of is that you are not mixing and matching BSP and dash fittings. The threads can often work, but they never fully tighten against the inner mating face and will leak.

I have no experience of that particular console, but used numerous BSP and dash fittings on the race car and as long as you match the right unions they are extremely reliable and need noting else. Doughty washers (those with the steel outer and rubber inner) tend to cause more problems than they solve with this type of fitting.

The only thing that connects onto the other side of the thread is the oil filter, which mates up with the flange at the outer edge of the console.
I hit problems when trying to fit the filter as the threaded adapter was the wrong way round initially and the thread on one side is approximately 1mm bigger than the other so the filter would not fit.
Not sure why it was reversed, but it's many years since I bought it from the USA.
Hope it won't be too long before we can all get out a bit more and have a catch-up at some point. Thanks again. Jonathan.
