Deciding factors ...

Firstly let me apologise for starting yet another non-Porsche thread but, in my defence, it might bring a few people 'out of the woodwork' &, in turn, stimulate them to post on their own Porsche experiences/projects.
Also, this thread is likely to be rather 'wordy' with a sparsity of pictures ...
Unlike most of the suggestions offered in Sam's recent thread entitled “Getting a car that isn't a 911”, my criteria these days for an alternative 'fun' car tend to limit the search to '60's/'70's makes/models which have:
- a max weight of 1000 Kg
- an engine of under 2 litres (& preferably no more than 1.5 litres)
- an advanced spec for the era
- a recognised Factory competition history
- & be in standard Factory spec or featuring only 'period'/reversible mods
They would also need to be LHD, ideally built in (relatively) small numbers, be in excellent condition requiring no obvious foreseeable expenditure – &, possibly most important of all, must be a make/model the values of which aren't already prohibitively expensive …
In addition, as I have already owned many 'classic' cars in the past, I would prefer to get a model that I haven't had before ...
The only British car in this category that appeals is a Climax-engined Elite but prices have risen to a level that rules them out for me - & I have no interest in American cars - so what contenders are/were there from european manufacturers ?
Alfa – I've already owned most of those models which interest me that fulfill the criteria
Citroen – made some great cars that have always appealed but nothing that meets the criteria
Nothing from BMW, Fiat or Mercedes particularly interests me
- so that really only left Lancia …
