3.2 whale tail removal .... wiper or not and new badge ?

I have a Baltic Blue/ linen 89 Carrera with a whale tail and rear wiper. The car is very original apart from the Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 recently installed. I would like to try the car without the tail so I have bought a new Dansk engine cover for painting once I can find a paint supplier open.
A couple of questions arise.
1. Should I retain the wiper on the new engine lid or remove it to allow a cleaner look?
2. How do I get the exact location for the new badge on the new lid?
‘Idle hands do the devils work’.

The wiper is really up to you.

Re the lid, I'd trial fit on you car before having it painted, some work/fiddling might need to be done to get it fitting really well. Consider painting it a contrasting/different colour - as colour match to you car could be trickly (might not -ask paint shop).

Remove letters from your original lid, make a masting tape 'trace' of the holes for the PORSCHE letters, take some dimensions also, then put masking tape trace on new lid line up with your dimensions etc. and drill - 50mm making tape works well, or layer narrower. Or for a retro look go with self adhesive decals - dont drill at all?

Whale tail does work in conjunction with front splitter, others on the forum will be better able to say if removing the whale tail makes a handling difference...

The black Carrera script I have bought new is self adhesive but the location on the rear lid is surely different on a whale tail car ie lower on the lid than on a flat back?
The plan is that the deck lids can be interchanged as required

Ok - get you now.

Look at this for a guide xhttp://elfgoed.nl/en/collectie/665/

I'd say there is no right and wrong - I measured my SWB lid and the 911S measures 58mm from the bottom of the text to the vent area above. Put it on where it looks right.

Wiper spindle for the spoiler vs non spoiler is different. (Spoiler version is longer)

Greetings from Dromore.

You may get a quicker answer on your badge location from the 3.2 section over on IB.

I'd second Robin on the fit of a Danske rear lid. Definitely trial fit first. If it's bad then send it back and buy a decent second hand one which is more likely to be right.

Cheers,

Al

Hi Al and Robin
I thought I was doing the right thing buying a new one but I see your concern. It’s still in box till I get a paint guy to take the original off and fit this one. Nothing simple!

Restoration design also do them - others may know the quality but sure the steel is a correct 1mm dansk 0.8mm - some of the restorers could confirm this or not, same as to the fit.?
