I was contacted recently by an old friend who has a 1972 2.4T identity for sale. It comprises a chassis VIN plate, chassis VIN from the upper tank panel and the dashboard production number all removed from a RHD car deemed unrestorable 30 years ago. The vehicle is SORNED with an accompanying V5.

The price is £6500.

A suitable application of the use for this would be to build a race car. Current FIA regulations provide for shells up to 1979 to make replicas of early competition Porsches for racing purposes so this would be ideal to restore this using a later shell and have an early identity.

If you intend to restore this car using donor parts from other vehicles you should consider the following disclaimer; It is not considered illegal in English Law to restore a car by using donor parts from other cars including a complete shell but it would be fraudulent if on re-sale the resulting vehicle was misrepresented in some way to solicit financial gain over and above its perceived market value. To do so you must have legal title to the original car so you just can't create a car from paperwork. A UK V5 on its own is not proof of title, it is only a record of the last registered keeper. If in any doubt as to the proposed use of this Identity please seek independent legal advice.

If you are interested I would be happy to put you in touch with the seller.

If you have any legal concerns about the above please PM me and I would be pleased to share my considerable 6 years international experience as an expert witness in fraud cases relating to misrepresentation of classic cars in relation to the above, a significant proportion of which have been high value Porsches.

Mark.
