Newly rebuilt engine and turbo

So guys,
Anyone have any ideas why my newly rebuilt 3.3 engine with newly rebuilt turbo has an issue with the turbo haemorrhaging oil out on the pressurised side up through the intercooler and thus into the engine producing thick black smoke!

It’s possible the scavenge pump is not working and thus the oil lubricating the turbo has nowhere to go.

Just a guess though.

On another note, oil burning generates white smoke. Black smoke is generally unburnt fuel (rich mixture)!

Turns out the newly rebuilt turbo is wrecked more than when I sent it in for a rebuild.
I am keeping quiet now until the person who built and test ran the engine has had his say......meanwhile grab yourselves some pop corn and I will update when I can

Best of luck with your investigation.
When I had my two turbochargers ( for a 3.0 and a 3.3 ) rebuilt by Turbo Technics, I was really surprised by the amount of remanufacturing of parts that was required - possibly not surprising after 40 years!
The good news is that Turbo Technics remade these internal parts in stainless steel, so they ought to be good for another 50 years.

Quick update here guys
Always check when rebuilding the engine that the 9mm ball bearing is inserted into the specially machined banjo fitting at the top of the engine that supplies the turbo!
It will do a lot of damage to your turbo if it's not there!!!

Before starting any 930 or any freshly built turbo engine for that matter make sure that the turbo is being supplied with oil by cracking the sump bung in the turbo cranking the engine over until. A) you get oil pressure and b) you're getting a supply to the turbo. Then plug the ignition module in a d off you go. The most damage to turbos is done when there is no oil supply. The ball bearing is a check valve to stop oil being drained from that part of the feed line so that the turbo always has a slug of oil at start up.
