I'm seeing so many pictures of cars that have suffered fuel hose failure due to the ethanol in modern fuels degrading the rubber to a degree where it fails.

I'm therefore looking to replace my fuel lines from the fuel pump through to the carbs.
Can anybody suggest what brands / grades I need to be looking for to cope with modern fuels? Also regarding metal braided lines I presume these are just as susceptible as its just a protective braid over what may be poor quality rubber?

Not taking chances as the cotton covered Cohline is not resistant.

We've been using Gates for the past 15 years. We re-check every vehicle that comes back we've had no problems.

I wouldn't use fabric braided on anything.

I have just bought a set of teflon hoses for my 3.2 Carrera from the States.

I've got the Fabric / Cotton covered fuel lines, not sure what brand though

Thanks for the advice - I've just ordered 3 metres of the Cohline Type 2240 - 100% Ethanol resistant.

Good shout...i had the braided lines on mine which were not very old and looked absolutely fine to the eye but were pi55ing fuel everywhere when I took my car out of hibernation last spring. i replaced with new braided, but looks like cohline would be money well spent. does anyone you know the bore size (MFI car?)

You will need 7.5mm and some of there 9mm for the fuel pump and tank return.

why would we think that the fuel lines need to be braided in any way? The pressure isn't high. It just masks any problems.

Modern fuel hose, even from Halfrauds is E10 resistant, so is it a big deal?

I think the use of cotton braided hose is a need to maintain originality. As for the pressure involved the MFI system has significantly greater pressure than for carbs.
As for being E10 resistent: I understand that some hose manufacturers claiming E10 resistance actually had hose failures too. The lesson here is check fuel hoses on a regular basis.

To put a different perspective on this topic - I use fabric-braided Cohline* fuel hose on each of my (non-Porsche carb-equipped) cars & haven't had any problems.

However, I replace the hose annually & most of the time I seek out & use ethanol-free fuel (Esso Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded 97) ...

Those steel braided racing lines are pretty suspect too. Had hoped being racing fuel proof they would be ethanol proof, no chance!!

I wouldn't use Cohline braided, because I'm far less diligent than Andy with maintenance!

In places where it can be seen day-to-day (meaning engine bay), for appearance's sake I do use the cotton braided Codan 3106 hose, as recommended by Chris Flavell in the thread linked above, and here:

It's expensive and not easy to source, but does look good and has been problem-free.

Underneath the car I use the Cohline 2240 non-braided, 100% ethanol resistant stuff, which looks a bit wrong but has also been no trouble.

I know this relates to fuel hoses and ethanol but the replacement hoses in general seem poor. In my opinion it is not worth reusing the hoses that feed the camshafts nor the S shaped one from the oil cooler to the oil tank nor the one from the oil tank to the engine. They are all rubbish after only 2-4 years and any movement causes leaks.
