Another new guy!

Hi, I’m new to the forum and new to aircooled Porsches although I’ve owned a couple of water cooled front engine ones. I have been an aircooled VW person for a long time though and have had way too many! Haha!

I have wanted a SWB Porsche for as long as I can remember, most of my toy cars as a kid were Porsches but owning a proper one had always been a bit out of reach with the other projects I had going on. But an opportunity fell into my lap this year and I now own a 67 912, ok I admit I wanted a 911 but my ability to fund one is none existent and I do love 912’s too!

It was a partially stripped project that only requires a very small bit of welding on each sill, and let’s just say it was affordable!! So I have been gathering the missing parts and other than a few miscellaneous small parts it is now complete but still disassembled to an extent.

I am still building a VW too at the same time but hope to have this car done soon, so can finally enjoy the car I’ve dreamt about for so many years.
Only thing now is I have to somehow figure out how to get my daughter in it safely, it seems an impossible task!!

I am planning on leaving it a bit rough and ready but will be lowered and running torque thrusts. I’ve got to do something with paint but a full respray is out of the question!

It’s got some great company in the workshop as well :)

Torque Thrusts and lowered will really suit it.

Getting child seats in (guess that’s what you want?) can be challenging. There’s a couple of threads on here somewhere. The original front seats are too flat and squishy to get any child seat to fit properly, and the back seat needs one with a very narrow base. I’ve used a Britax seat in the back of my ‘72 but that has a slightly different seat back to the earlier cars. You’ll also need to add belts to the parcel shelf.

If you daughter is a bit younger then rear facing is next to impossible, best let her grow up a bit whilst you get the car sorted :)

Welcome to DDK!

Haha Cheers guys, my daughter is 2 so a front facing seat is what I need, trying to find one that will actually fit into the rear seat. I have to add belts anyway somehow, as doesn’t appear to be any mounts at all in the back currently. I have front belts but not the clasp so I’m going to have to replace the front belts too.

I will probably be De trimming the car and going a bit more hot rod with it, have been very tempted to paint some R inspired stripes over it but I really can’t decide. Will just get it together and working on the road then worry about what to do with the paint probably.

I’ll try to keep a build thread going, I’ll be sticking a wanted ad up for some of the bits and pieces I still need to find soon.

The workshop is our man cave, not a business. Me and two mates share it. The one room you can see in the photo above is the main room, there is a 2 post lift just out of sight with my friends 68 912 on, and an oval window beetle underneath, then another split bus and a sit up and beg Ford pop the other side. Then we have a room at the back full of pin ball machines for when not working on cars haha!

The Merc is a 72 W108 on full air ride, I’m selling that one soon.

Got the engine fired up on the pallet last night so that’s a big weight off my mind! Few things to source then it can all go together :)
