There seem to be more engines than cars, so value is difficult to decide. Super 90 engines are rare, which will help. Probably a picture, engine number and a list of ancillaries included would help. Also on the 356registry.org there is a list of serial numbers that owners are looking for, so that their cars can have original engines in them. Worth a look.

FWIW I’ve got a spare 1720cc SC engine I rebuilt and may never need, it probably won’t sell for as much as the rebuild cost.

thank you for the tip AJ

I know very little about these cars , but have been assured its complete and running - I'll get the owner to check on the registry

I think the value isn't great in a used unknown engine. The most value in these engines comes if you can find the original car. There is a list on 356 register. As Ashley says most of the cost is in the rebuild. That said if the case is in good condition with all the original bits and you find someone that wants that engine for a project

Value will be closely linked to condition, obviously difficult to see what condition the internals are in but if there is any paper trail/evidence of work done that obviously helps, alternatively recent compression/leak down test results are always handy.

Oil pressure is another proxy for condition in an unknown engine - I've seen asking prices up to £8k for post pre-A engines depending on condition

S90 Engines were not great engines - just quirky

The Engine is from a LHD Car - look on the 356 Registry for people looking for their engine otherwise it is just another engine with unknown provenance looking for a home.
