911T - Bosch distributor vacuum connection

Hi,
I am just reassembling my 2.4T engine which has a Bosch distributor with vacuum advance connection. I have a set of replacement Webber carbs which I have fitted and I have just noticed that there does not appear to be a vacuum connection on the carbs or manifold. It is so long since this engine was all together that I had completely overlooked this when fitting the new carbs. Can anyone tell me if the vacuum connection is absolutely necessary as on some models I understand this was not fitted, hence there being no connection on the carbs I have now fitted. If it is required, does anyone have any experience of how this is best done?
Also, as the carbs are not those originally fitted to this engine, can anyone tell me what jets etc. will be needed for this engine?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks Jonathan.
