1973T, original gauge for oil pressure and engine temp, 1985 3.2 engine, all original senders.

Engine been in this car for 22 years and never a problem.
Yesterday while easy cruising in 3rd, 3K rpm the oil pressure gauge shot to 140 psi and stayed there, no fluctuation no matter what rpm while the engine was running.
Temperature stable at 180F.
Car running great.

Switched off and left he car in a car park for 2 hours.
On restart, everything back to normal.
Today, all working as usual.

Just a one off, never happened before, but the gypsies warning?

I suspect it is the engine sender (on the RHS pressure tensioner line), but any thoughts please?
Graham.

Good afternoon

I would check the sender but also pressure relief valve: please refer to parts scheme of your engine

If blocked can alter your oil pressure... Up or down depends on position

A small metal bit in oil can cause it...

Most likely sender, also check the eletrical contact on top of the sender as there isn't much metal in the plug to make good contact.

Thank you both.
I thought I had a problem nobody knew the answer to!

I've pulled and replaced the wires on the senders, temp and pressure so to 'clean' them.

They haven't been touched for possibly decades....
The pressure levels are exactly as they always have been. Might invest in a new pressure sender.
