Is this correct?

Porsche 914 Tyres

• (1970-’73) 914 1.7 = 165VR15 Pirelli Cinturato CN36 N4 or 165VR15 Michelin XAS N0
• (1973-’76) 914 2.0 = 165VR15 Pirelli Cinturato CN36 N4 or 165VR15 Michelin XAS N0
• (1974-’76) 914 1.8 = 165VR15 Pirelli Cinturato CN36 N4 or 165VR15 Michelin XAS N0

• (1970-’72) 914/6 = 165VR15 Pirelli Cinturato CN36 N4 or 165VR15 Michelin XAS N0

In the day probably, the factory 914 spec book states either 155 or 165 for both 4.5 and 5.5 wheel widths. No brands mentioned though. I have just had recommend and fitted by Angus at Greatworth a set of Vredestein Sportrac 5's to my Minilite 6.5 wheels and I am very pleased with them.

The Vredestein is a bargain, but not as good as the

or
Michelin XAS https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/catalo ... egory/6847

Typically the cars had 165 SR15 for the 1.7 & 1.8 and 165 HR15 for the 2.0 or /6. The early 1.7 may have come stock with 155, but I think few were delivered as such. Dunlop SP57 was a popular tyre on the 2.0 as original equipment.
VR may be a little overkill but acceptable. I much prefer the 185/70 even though the gas mileage suffers; I think I lost about 10 MPG off peak.

I don't have anything specifically for the 914 i'm afraid, but Porsche were fitting Veith Pirelli Cinturato in an H rated on 911 and 912 and Michelin XAS on the 912 in August 1968. Both H rated, so i would guess that they were at least an option on the 914.

The other consideration is that Pirelli and Michelin are actually making these tyres where all the other OE options are no longer made.
