Well done Tom.
Enjoy getting the car up to your usual standards, and putting many miles on the clock.Keep the photo's coming.
Was that reg,(RGO1L),originally on a 73 RS? Or am I getting mixed up with RGO2/3L?

Thanks Dougie, looking forward to it.
There are a few RGO numbers, the two RS's below were in one of my magazines. I keep the ones with significant cars or articles I want to refer back to.
I also remember this going up for sale pre-restoration and then once complete.

RGO 3L, A lightweight RS.
I will at some stage write to the previous owner and hopefully get further details on the car and some of the history of the registrations, really significant collection of cars.

Re: 1975 Carrera 2.7 MFI
Congratulations Tom, it appears to be a very fine car, well bought.
The MFI Carrera 2.7's are a wonderful drive, you'll discover that I'm sure.
I like the fact that the superb driving dynamics are somewhat 'cloaked' in the G-series body and remain unknown to many. It's certainly a car for the discerning gentleman. A proper Porsche.
I look forward further updates.

Paul,
Thanks, delighted to have been able to buy the car. Really looking forward to driving and getting to know how it behaves. Still in the honeymoon period while it sits on the ramps with its skirt lifted getting the oil leak sorted. I am reading road reports and pouring over details in the Ryan Snodgrass book in anticipation.
Picked up this today, George my local independent is a hoarder and has a number of treasures hidden away. Porsche do these as reproductions but I like it coming out of a dusty envelope stuffed away on a shelf.

New plates arrived today, went with Classic Plates Online. Nice quality, lovely pressed aluminium. Looking forward to seeing these on.
I am hoping to collect the car tomorrow, the sealing compound on the engine case appears to be working and the other minor jobs are almost complete.

Your local technical expert appears very good natured. If I hung around his workshop taking arty monochromes, mine would tell me where to stick my camera!

George is a star, he came in today specifically to work on my car. I arrived in at 3.30pm, music on in the background while he was working away. I was there for 1 hr 30 mins poking about and helping put the window frame back in. He has promised to be back in tomorrow to finish the build-up and let me take the car home.inaglasshouse wrote:Your local technical expert appears very good natured. Engine oil leak fixed for the time being - think this is a temporary fix but fine for now
Isolator attached to the battery
Tracker fitted
Window motor changed
Porsche fan belt fitted
New led bulbs fitted
Front hubs adjusted
Brake fluid changed
some small screws and fixing changed to what they should be....and this is now on

Re: 1975 Carrera 2.7 MFI
I finally collected the car yesterday, my son Ben and I arrived at George's garage close to 5pm. I had said to my wife I would be quick, drop the Targa off (high idle when warm - need to sort this before selling) and bring the new one home. We finally left the garage at 6:45pm....the curt and frequent calls from my wife as to my whereabouts did nothing for the mood. The joy of driving the car for the first time with my son soon wiped out any disappointment we had missing going out for dinner. The drive home was so much fun, to stretch the cars legs and soak up the noise and warmth of the car, it really feels good. The ride is soft and comfortable, long drives will be a joy. I can only assume the tall profile tyres add to this. All in all the car feels very tight and responsive. The drive to the garage in the 3.2 Targa was good as a comparison rather than driving a current vehicle, the 2.7 feels lighter much more urgent and more delicate. I think it will take a bit of time to get used to the tyres (I haven't even checked the pressures - so this might change), moderately fast corners feels like the car flows round rather than bitting into the tar. It is a nice feeling, just different. Start of a journey

Re: 1975 Carrera 2.7 MFI
Very nicely described Tom.
You never forget your fist drive in a 2.7 MFI car. The performance, the sound, the smell.
I think you will find that Ben will recount the story of ‘picking up The Carrera’ more than once many years in the future. It’s a father and son bonding thing.
Wives on the other hand are a little trickier. Good luck.
Regards
Mike

Re: 1975 Carrera 2.7 MFI
It would appear I was running just over 20psi all round. No wonder there was a slightly vague soft feel to the steering. 29 up front and 34 at the rear, feels completely different.
First quick wash and hoover tonight, if the weather holds up I will take the car along to the launch of the new 911 in Perth on Wednesday, a chance for a decent run.
Sorry about the wet look pictures, could not resist taking a quick snap.
