Help needed!

My 1982 US import 911sc targa has just failed it's mot for not having a rear fog light fitted, despite passing an MOT last year.

I have read a bit about fitting a rear fog light, and I decided that I liked the idea of using one of the 2 reverse lights as a fog light with a high wattage red bulb rather that have a fog light hanging down under the rear bumper.

I was interested to read that US supplied cars were fitted with the wiring for a rear fog, but that it was tied up behind the nearside light cluster. Sure enough, it was there as fitted by the factory and secured by a cable tie.

When I turn on the front frogs no power comes to these wires for the rear fog light. Does anyone know where the other end of these wires is likely to be located? I was hoping to connect them to the switch for the front frogs. It would be great to use the factory wiring rather than run new wiring through the car.

Many thanks in advance.

.

From memory the other end of the wire is similarly tied up near the rear of the fog light switch ...

I've looked under the dash and from the inside of the front boot. Do I really need to remove all that heating gubbins from the frunk? I really hope not! Is there an easier way?

I too have had an 82 coupe import arrive and was thinking how I'd sort that ugly fog light.
When you say the wiring is there N/S, is that UK N/S (Drivers side on a LHD car).
Looks a lot better if it's integrated into the lights.

Yes. Looking at the car from behind, the wires are taped up behind the left hand rear light cluster.

I did not end up using mine in the end, as the effort of finding the other end of the wires (behind the fog light switch was too great. I ran a new switched pair from the dash to the rear bumper.

What Jonny says, the fogs only function when the main lights are on. So if you are testing for power at the connectors make sure you have the main lights on and possibly engine running.

Also, on my 964, the rear fog lights will only come on if the front fog lights are also on. Can’t have tears on only

From memory

Side lights (or headlights) on
Pull foglight switch to turn on front fogs.
Rotate foglight switch to turn on rear fogs

As said above rear fogs only illuminate once Side (or headlamps ) are on and also front fogs are on (if fitted)

I have an '82 car in the workshop so can check tomorrow to confirm.

Cheers

Found the fog light loom last night at the back of the rear NS light unit, be handy if it's already wired at the dashboard switch, we shall see.
