Hi Folks,

I'm a newbie to flat sixes, so I'm looking for some advise on ECU's, I bought a restoration project, but the ECU's are missing, it's a 1975 2.7, so should I find the standard ECU's or look into using something more modern as an upgrade, the engine is standard, so hope to keep the distributor & injectors if possible.

These cars have a CDI box which is essentially a spark generator. Lots of info online. We make a modern replacement which has some programmable features. See my signature.

So what controls the fuel injection system, is there a system that does both?

The (CIS) fuel injection is mechanical ...

Thanks for clarifying that chaps, you'll have to forgive my ignorance, my classic car knowledge is mainly on british cars that have needles & butterflies, not these squirty things.

So apart from the CDI box of magic, what other electrickery is used on these models, what led me astray was searching on ebay for ECU's and finding these..

The cars are pretty simple electrically but electrics weren’t Porsche’s strong suit. For example, the fuse panels don’t age well.

My business is focussed solely on improving the electrical systems in the cars and we do explain the shortfalls of the original parts and our solutions to them. Have a read of our website.

Some of the US CIS cars had lambda control so these had some primitive ECUs.

The first 911 to have a Motronic ECU (like your picture) was the Carrera 3.2 in 1984.

That's good news actually, I'm glad there aren't ecu's on my model, I like things simple.

I'll be in touch when I get closer the engine stage of my restoration.

Not that I have one (yet), but Mr. Hart's ugrade is the bee's knees. John
