Hi all,
I'm just starting out on a restoration of a late model 914, based in East Sussex.
Looking forward to getting stuck in!

Whereabouts are you? I’m in Mayfield. Also have a 75 914.

Thanks for the warm welcome chaps.
Hi Jonny, I'm in Crowborough - just down the road.

Hi Matt,
Do you know Lee down at Octane Garage ( in the small estate at the bottom of the hill near station)?
Good chap for Porsche work. I design and manufacture a few products mainly for 911’s. My 914 is a slow burn project with a twist, it will be Tesla powered!
Cheers
Jonny

Hi Jonny
It was Lee who recommended DDK to me - he does a great job of looking after my 997.
I love the sound of a Tesla powered 914. If you’re over at Octane pop in for a cuppa, I’m half a mile up the hill.

As you can see from the pics, I've started to strip her down, and I'm delighted to say I'm yet to find
any perforations or rust. The windscreen pillars and where they meet the wings look a bit sketchy but the floors and hell hole are all rust free. The front and rear trunk both still have original paint. The outside has had a poor blow - over respray.
On the downside as you'll see on the last pic it's thrown a rod and has a hole in the crankcase.
The plan is to drop the engine, inspect it and see what, if anything is salvageable. I have a box of random fuel injection parts and a set or Webers which I'm likely to get rebuilt.
The paint process should be fairly straight forwards. I'm ditching the impact bumpers (how heavy are they!?!) for body-coloured painted bumpers - it will stay it's original silver colour and I'm thinking of painting the sills lower front and rear valences and sails silver too.
Lots to do, but less bodywork than most seem to have to deal with.

Do you guys know Dave Milam? He's just down the road in Jarvis Brook, he's a bit hard work but he has a complete engineering shop in his back garden nicely tucked away. He has rebuilt a couple of my Ford V8's in the past. Mainly drag racing and roundy round though.

Saw him in the pub on Saturday. Very talented engineer, does a lot of work for places round here. Did the heads on my engine. He has sold his dragster now. His wife was saying she was missing the thrill of driving it.
Matt, car looks pretty solid. Saw the 914 motor at Lee’s, standard build or uprated?

I don't know Dave - sounds like an interesting chap though.
Lee is getting cracking with the engine - just bought a new cam from Auto Atlanta. It's going to be a standard (ish) build, on Weber 44's.
