81 SC wipers won't park

I took the wiper motor off to check if the switch on the gearbox was working and found it was ok. With the wipers running I can hear the intermittent relay pulling in and dropping out, tried intermittent wipers alone and they don't work. I suspect the intermittent wiper relay is faulty, has anyone else experienced the same or is there anything else i can check before I buy a new relay.
Cheers Gary

If you’ve not taken the wiper stalk off you might be surprised how much dirt has accumulated inside the contact housing. Easy to clean out, and also look closely at the contacts in there as they might need bending a little.

Tested across switch 110 ohms, stripped down steering column and cleaned inside of wiper switch, 0.4 ohms, all working again.
Thanks lads

What did you use to clean the switch please?

Sorry its taken so long to get back to you but when i stripped the switch out a load of crap dropped out of it. I blew what else was in there and it all worked, so I ordered some electrical contact cleaner off ebay and washed it out with that. A friend who has a few classic and vintage cars said he uses lighter fuel as it evaporates quickly and leaves no residue.
