Morning all

My 1972 car has 3.2L engine and corresponding 915 box from a 1985 car.

I'm afraid I've gotten to the stage where the more "modern" electronically driven speedometer, set in an otherwise 1972 sea of silver dot original instruments, is offending me...…

Is there a sensible or widely practiced solution - either refacing the speedometer and installing an old needle (and if so who could do this) or converting the gearbox to manual drive, which in truth sounds like an expensive (and complex) affair?

If you search long and hard there is an older style Speedo with electronic drive available. Fitted from 1976 it’s the 150mph VDO one with the right drive

I'm not 100% sure I understand your replies, specifically the pictures (which is exactly how mine looks presently).

I have the more modern looking speedometer (electronic version) currently installed (as I have a later 1985 transmission in the 1972 car). My guess is that I need this existing speedo gauge backdated cosmetically (ie face and needle) as this is much easier than getting an older speedo converted to run on electronic drive.

I've emailed Reap Automotive - in fact suggesting that I simply purchase the face and needle (and arrange install here) instead on sending the whole instrument around the world....with attendant risk of loss, customs stuff-up etc.
