Our sump plates can get bent out of shape over the years and inevitably leak a bit of oil. When my engine was rebuilt this problem had been addressed by applying a large portion of black silicone to the mating surfaces and whilst this seems to have done the job, it looks terrible and makes the removal and refitting of the sum plate a clarty pain in the bum.

I've found two companies in the States offering replacement plates that look nicely engineered and wonder if anyone has any experience of these products :-

Firstly Precision Matters, with or without a drain plug.

This happened on my car too when it went to a garage. The slump came back with load of sealant. I've taken the sealant off, used some new gaskets and all seems ok. If you torque the nuts in a sensible order I've never had an issue. However, I do like the idea of removing a plug from slump plate to drain the oil but then to clean the magnetic you still have to remove the plate? Did you see the tech article in the 356 mag about using stronger magnets?

The slump plate traditionally should only have gaskets

Ok, so Mike have tried to stop the leak with the original sump plate, ie make it flat again? I guess if you have, then a new slump is the only answer.

Actually Mike to answer your original question I believe that Charlie has the High Tech Precision one on his 912. He isn't on here much but you can try his website https://www.aircooledapparel.com/ It's been a couple of years since he fitted it so should have some feedback.

PS have you consider getting a regular slump from PRS? No international postage to worry about.

Charlie's on holiday at the moment so we'll have to wait till he gets back.

PRS are only showing a second hand sump plate for sale on their website which looks in worse nick than mine.

Hello Simon, I have had a go at straightening it out and the chances are that others have tried before me. Over the years all that hammering takes it's toll, the metal gets thin, the bolt holes grow and when you tighten the plate down on the gaskets everything distorts all over again.

I quite fancy the plate from Precision Matters, it incorporates a humungous magnet but Ron's shipping costs are pretty humungous too.

He's quoted me $80 for UPS but suggested it would cost the same to ship 3 or 4 plates.

High Tech Precision's plate relies on a magnetic sump plug to collect loose engine parts but looks nicely engineered. They quote only $15 for international shipping on their website so I'll drop them a line and see if that's a fact.

I'm tempted by the 'hightech' one if that shipping is correct... i've just bought a new Scat crank from the US so still suffering shipping/customs trauma. Let me know what you decide we could share shipping cost??

I have to admit i think the drain hole/plug seems a bit small on this one, although i like the look of it fitted, matches the engine fin's...

That does like the High Tech Precision plate and the vendor is in Canada. If so, with a little magnetic sump plug, it's going to much less effective than an original plate.

Makes the PreMat plate look like the only sensible choice.
